This initiative of promotion and territorial development linked to the world of wine tourism sets Verona as the only Italian city to be present in the network of the Great Wine Capitals together with Adelaide (South Australia), Bilbao and Rioja (Spain), Bordeaux (France), Lausanne (Switzerland), Mainz (Germany), Mendoza (Argentina), Porto (Portugal), San Francisco - Napa Valley (USA), Valparaìso - Casablanca Valley (Chile) and Capetown (South Africa).
The Best of Wine Tourism awards have the aim of recognizing and enhancing initiatives in the field of wine tourism that present true standards of excellence.
The International Jury, made up of experts from the countries participating in the Competition, examined the applications and declared a Global winner for each competing capital. For Italy, Ca' Rugate won the important award, which was awarded in the "Art & Culture" category.
What impressed the jury the most was the Enomuseo Ca 'Rugate, inaugurated in 2008, which testifies in detail the peasant life of the twentieth century with a collection of more than a hundred agricultural tools, family heritage and which tell authentic traditions and values that the Tessari family still carries on with pride.
In the race for the prize, the activity as a Didactic Farm was also of great importance, with educational courses aimed at schools and families that sight to revive the rural traditions that are part of memory for the new generations.
In recent months the company has enriched its wine tourism proposal with various itineraries that also involve other important players in the area, creating a local synergy and giving the wine tourist the opportunity to combine Wine Experiences with art, through a visit to a Palladian villa, the gastronomy of the territory, with a visit to a local dairy and the hilly paths of the Soave Classico hills, through horse-riding trails.
"We are satisfied that the desire to go beyond the production of wine has been recognized to express the values that are the basis of our daily work", says Michele Tessari, winemaker at the head of the winery. The Montecchia di Crosara company, with 90 hectares in the DOC Soave Classico, Valpolicella and Lessini Durello, is an organic farm.
"We strongly believe that the challenge of the future is, today more than ever, opening the doors of our territory and we are happy that this recognition comes in such a difficult year", Tessari underlines.
Ca 'Rugate also looks to solidarity projects: "Next year", Tessari announces, "we would like to become a Social Farm, to welcome and give value, through social reintegration projects to people with different emotions; it is the continuation of a path of growth that wants to place the person at the center of our mission, regardless of whether he is, relevant to the world of wine».
